Just like is the tradition, the African Sex Workers Alliance (ASWA) is this year hosting the Sex Workers Networking Zone (SWNZ) at the International conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA). The event is being held at Sofitel Hotel Ivoire, in Abidjan.
This year, ASWA is co-hosting the event with member and local organisation, Blety, which is a sex workers organisation in the host country, Ivory Coast.
Josiane Tety Prunelle leads the organisation formed in 2007 as the Executive Director. Together with ASWA’s Programme Manager, Denis Nzioka, she developed the outline of the SWNZ activities.
Among the topics of discussion in the Zone, which is being hosted at the Community Village at ICASA 2017 include: Human rights to the test in the elimination of HIV among sex workers, Recognition of community counselors and peer educators by the state for efficiency in interventions in sex workers management and Interventions to be prioritised in funds allocation among others. As part of programming, Blety has incorporated art especially dance as a tool for communication.
Other ASWA member organisations present at the SWZN are Cameroon’s Alcondoms led by Patrick Fotso Senegal’s Lala Maty SOW of Association And Soppeku, and Democratic Republic of Congo’s AHUSADEC led by Modeste Mambo.
Curious about sex work, participants have been flocking the SWNZ to learn and also share information.
L’ASWA illumine Community Village à l’ICASA 2017 en Côte d’Ivoire
Tout comme la tradition, l’Alliance des travailleurs du sexe africains (ASWA) accueille cette année la Zone de réseautage des travailleuses du sexe (SWNZ) à la Conférence internationale sur le SIDA et les IST en Afrique (ICASA). L’événement se tiendra au Sofitel Hotel Ivoire, à Abidjan. Cette année, l’ASWA organise conjointement l’événement avec Blety, une organisation membre et locale, qui est une organisation de travailleurs du sexe dans le pays hôte, la Côte d’Ivoire. Josiane Tety Prunelle dirige l’organisation créée en 2007 en tant que directrice exécutive. Avec le directeur de programme de l’ASWA, Denis Nzioka, elle a développé les grandes lignes des activités du SWNZ. Parmi les sujets de discussion dans la Zone, qui est hébergée au Village Communautaire à l’ICASA 2017: Les droits humains à l’épreuve de l’élimination du VIH chez les travailleurs du sexe, Reconnaissance des conseillers communautaires et éducateurs pairs par l’état pour l’efficacité des interventions dans la gestion des travailleurs du sexe et les interventions à être priorisés dans la répartition des fonds entre autres. Dans le cadre de la programmation, Blety a incorporé l’art en particulier la danse comme outil de communication.
D’autres organisations membres de l’ASWA présentes au SWZN sont les Alcondoms du Cameroun dirigés par Patrick Fotso, le Sénégalais Lala Maty SOW de l’Association And Soppeku et l’AHUSADEC de la République Démocratique du Congo dirigé par Modeste Mambo.
