Kenyan group, HOYMAS, wins global grant award

Kenya’s male sex worker-led group, HOYMAS (Health Options for Young Men on HIV/AIDS & STI) is one of the recipients of this year’s VIIV Healthcare Positive Action Challenge on Sex, Work, Life and HIV: Stigma-Free Services for Sex Workers. The award presented during this year’s International Aids Society(IAS) Mexico 2019 conference was given to Hoymas and other recipients for enabling sex worker communities and health care providers to work together to provide comprehensive stigma-free HIV prevention.

Founded in 2009, HOYMAS runs a community clinic, a rehabilitation house and provides training on advocacy, communication and human rights violations documentation. It is also runs a confidential online STI and HIV testing services for the community.

The organisation’s work has also made it one of the key learning sites for local, regional and global sex worker-led groups.
